for 7th-8th Graders

The High School Art tests have gotten more competitive over the past few years, but we constantly work to develop our program to deliver the same successful results. The program contains three forms of classes:

  • Within the regular classes, students develop their portfolios.

  • Foundation classes are offered to develop smaller portfolio projects.

  • There are special preparation classes for the test itself that teach the necessary aspects of the test that apply to the specific high school(s) the student is applying to.

    • Special Additional Portfolio classes.

    • One-on-one portfolio review.

How do I get into LaGuardia High School for art?

Applicants to LaGuardia's visual art program submit a portfolio and take an in-person drawing assessment, which can include drawing from observation (still life, self-portrait, and model). Lebeor prepares students in 7th and 8th grade with portfolio projects and a one-on-one portfolio review.

Which art high schools do you prepare students for?

We prepare students for Fiorello H. LaGuardia, Art & Design, Edward R. Murrow, and Frank Sinatra, and from 2025 also Brooklyn School of the Arts. The preparation is tailored to the specific schools each student applies to.

When should my child start building a portfolio?

Ideally in 7th grade, so there's time for several finished pieces before applications in 8th grade. Portfolio work happens in three places: in regular classes, in foundationclasses for smaller projects, and in test-specific prep classes.

Do you offer portfolio reviews?

Yes. Students get a one-on-one portfolio review before they apply. We also offer one-on-one portfolio reviews for high schoolers applying to art colleges such as Pratt, SVA, FIT, and The New School.

How much does high school portfolio prep cost?

The program is divided into portfolio projects, and payment is made in cycles. Each cycle is usually four one-hour classes for $176.
